Beautiful Duluth!

I love Duluth, this is my favorite place to be in Minnesota. Situated on the shores of Lake Superior, it and Port Superior (WI) are the furthest inland ports on the Great Lakes. Both are big shipping hubs accessed by a man made canal. As the boats arrive and depart through the canal, the aerial bridge over it, rises to let them through. Duluth has plenty to offer in all weathers and is a popular holiday destination all year round.

From the headwaters of the Mississippi and across the Iron Range.

There was heavy rain today as I made my way across the Iron Range to Duluth. Along the way I stopped at Eveleth and checked out the giant hockey stick

Stopped in at Mine View in the Sky, Virginia, to see the Rouchleau Open Pit Iron Mine.

Minnehaha Falls, Minnesota.

  Spring, after the thaw.

The 53ft drop of the Minnehaha Falls is amazing to see, whether they be in full flow when the thaw comes in spring or frozen during winter. Even though it's discouraged people climb down to view the ice cave behind the icicles.

Henry Longfellow named Minnehaha in his famous poem The Song of Hiawatha after these Falls. He is reputed to have never visited them but was inspired by their description from a friend.

 Frozen in winter.

Welcome to edensminnesota.

Headwaters of the mighty Mississippi.

The mighty Mississippi needs no introduction, but did you know its source is here in Minnesota?  Not much more than six inches of water, shallow enough to stand in, except after heavy rain and melting snows, trickling over the stones on the edge of Lake Itasca, as it starts the journey south.
